ELECTRICAL VOLUNTEERS REPORT SUNDAY 8th MAY 2016

Post by JONATHAN-BARNES »

Today there were four of us, me, Len, Clive and John. Me and Len tested fire alarms as usual.

We did some tidying up jobs before going to the Standard Four shed. We had been informed that there was a light out. After some confusion it was found to be an 8ft tube over one of the lathes. We changed the tube and starter. There is only a limited stock of 8ft tubes and they are expensive. We will eventually need to replace all the 8ft fittings in Standard Four with 5ft LED fittings.

Me and Clive caught the 2-30 to Summerseat. There are four lamp posts at the northern end of Summerseat installed on the grass (the rest of them are on concrete). Last summer we found that there were ant hills being built inside these lampposts, almost up to the level of the fuse box. We dug them out and poured bleach into the bottom of the posts. Today we took the bottom covers off to inspect them. We found that there were still a lot of ants knocking about but no ant hills. Looks like the little have learnt a lesson with the bleach.

We had been informed that the remote control for the Summerseat station lights was not working. They can be switched from Rammy signal box. We unlocked the location cabinet and put a voltmeter on the circuit. It was found that there was an unwanted 12 volts on the line. This could be coming from the telephone system, possibly due to a damaged cable. We will need to talk to S&T to see if they can let us use an alternative pair in the telecoms cable.
We got the next train back to Bury and knocked off at about 4-15pm.
