The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 10-1-2016.

:D What a day it was today with the railway packed with people wanting to see the newly restored Flying Scotsman belongs to the NRM and what publicity for the East Lancashire Railway & Riley & Son Engineers.
Two page spreads on Saturday in all the National and local newspapers and great television coverage.

I was joined in our workshop by Clive, Jonathan and John, Len was at home supervising some work he was having done on his drive.

We gave testing the fire alarm a miss, we did not want to start a panic with so many people around the station confines.

The station master, Keith was good on his promise and brought into our workshop a cake for us to sample with our early morning brew.

We all boarded the next train up to Ramsbottom Station with the respective containers to recover the Christmas lights which were sagging somewhat from the station lamp posts.
Once we recovered the lights we made our way back to the workshop in BBS and stored the containers away till next Christmas.

Lunch had been taken on the train back to BBS so a quick brew was had before Clive and Jonathan stripped down the Smiths clock we had on test as the fingers had started to slip.
John had taken a coil out of another Smiths clock which was found to be open circuit to be rewound, this had been reassembled and tested by the repairer.
This repaired motor will be fitted next week and tested for accurate timekeeping.

John and myself went up to the Bury Standard 4 workshop to look at the speedometer parts that require refurbishment work, it was found that the coil on the Smiths speedometer was open circuit, the same as the Smiths clock we are trying to get working.

John and i decided to go to Baron Street shed to have a look at the Smiths speedometer on 80080 and to see how it is all fitted together to connect up to the speedometer in the cab.
The connectors of the speedometer were disconnected whilst work is being carried out on the motion of 80080 so hopefully we can pay another visit next Sunday to measure how many ohms the coil is, so we can get the one for 80097 rewound.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
