The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 18-08-2024.

Post by asbibby »

Today the electrical volunteer team consisted of Clive, Jonathan, John, Dave B, Dave S, Peter, Stephen and myself; as per usual we had a brew and a breakfast barm before starting work, courtesy of the ELLR kitchen staff, thanks. :D

Jonathan tested out the fire alarm call points in BBS and recorded the work done in the log book. :P

We had another look at the tower clock on Bolton Street. The East face is well and truly seized. It will have to be taken down and repaired in our workshop.
We tried our ladders but they are way too short to access the clocks.
So it'll have to be a cherry picker.
I'm wondering when we have the cherry picker it would be worth while removing the North and South faces too as they will surely fail and damage their drives sooner rather than later. (The West face has been serviced).

Clive repaired four of the globe fixings on the lollipop platform lights. We had tried in the past to epoxy the loose nuts onto the lamps but they break off. So this time we used a brass strip (made from bus bar) with a threaded central hole for the globe retaining screw and two nuts and bolts to hold the strip onto the lamp. Once painted, it's invisible.
Clive will make three more as spares as we are pretty certain there are more in the same state. 8)

We had received a message from Barry the ELLR electrician regarding the light fittings in the stairwell in the Bury Transport Museum.
The new light fittings were in our workshop, some emergency lighting and some ordinary light fittings all LED.
We couldn't do the three emergency and three standard lights at BTM as we've no key for the service room where the consumer unit is located. :)

The work today consisted of retrieving the lamp heads from Ramsbottom Station which we had stored away last Sunday after rubbing down the metalwork ready for painting this Sunday. :)

The five lamp heads were painted first in black paint, then allowed to dry until after lunch when we painted the reflector part in white. 8)

The lights were then re-assembled and tested before storing them away ready for installation next week at Ramsbottom Station., bees permitting!

That was it for today so we all signed out and made our way home, back next Sunday for more electrical shenanigans. :D
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
