ELECTRICAL VOLUNTEERS REPORT SUNDAY 16 AUG 2015

Post by JONATHAN-BARNES »

Me and Len tested the fire alarms as usual.

Alan is at a football match today. Me, Len, John and Clive went to Carriage & Wagons to continue with the job we started last week : converting the fluorescent fittings into LED fittings by disconnecting the electronic ballast units and connecting one end of the tubes directly to the mains. New LED tubes are then fitted. We completed a full row of lights above the wood staging. We went back to our shop for a late dinner.

After dinner we repaired an 80 meter 16 amp extension lead that had been run over by a train. We cut out the damaged part and fitted new 16 amp plugs and sockets to make two shorter leads out of one long one. These were then PAT tested.

We were given some old audio equipment that supports communication between the driver’s cab and the guard’s van on a DMU. Clive will investigate the possibility of striping out the old internal workings and replacing them with new electronics, so that the units will have wireless communication between them whilst retaining the authentic user interface.

We had a final brew before knocking off for another week.
