On Sunday i was joined by Len and Jonathan in the workshop after a swift brew Len & Jonathan went off to test the fire alarm call points in The Trackside and Bury Bolton Street Station Concourse, everything worked satisfactory and the results were logged.

Simon the full time electrician at the ELR asked us to start PAT testing the electrical equipment in Bury Transport Museum with the new computerised PAT tester which we now have.
We first tested the spot lights which light up the descriptions about the vehicle displays, some failed the test due to bad earthing and loose light fittings. These were isolated and will be repaired shortly.
One broken plug was replaced and six bulbs were also replaced with LED bulbs instead of the halogen bulbs which get quite hot.
The cables to the lights were also restrained with cable ties to prevent the cable from being pulled out.
Tested labels were fitted to all the equipment which passed the PAT testing.
Some of the light fittings also require work doing on them as the retaining nuts have worked loose, this is a problem as at present there is no access to the light fitting in the metalwork.
We will have to use a hole cutter to gain access to the back of the light fitting and then fit a blind grommet to cover the hole, which will be out of site at the top of the lighting stand.

We then broke for some lunch and a brew back in the workshop.

Back in the BTM we PAT tested all the blue 16 amp to 13 amp short double extension leads which provide the 240 volts for the display descriptions.

On our return to the workshop Jonathan downloaded all the data onto our computer from BTM PAT testing.

To complete all this PAT testing in the museum and to effect repairs is going to take a few Sundays.

Don't forget to look under the staging either side as there are several electrical items stored there including the Halloween Cauldron. But perhaps you knew this.

How long does it take to test each item?

Mike, two or three minutes for each item, but first you have to check the wiring, then disconnect them, test them and then put them back from were we found them.
Are the storage areas under the staging locked and if so who as the keys, how many electrical items and what are they, stored under the staging

Sarah Kerrison has the keys (she is now on leave until 15 June)

There is a PA system with Amp and wifi unit and several other items which will need hunting out. Not sure who is responsible for them OR whether Sarah has an inventory.

Mike, is it possible that the electrical items you mention can be retrieved from BTM storage and either put upstairs in the education room for which we can obtain the keys from the reception in BTM, or taken to our workshop for PAT testing?

I am not able to do anything about these matters until next week Alan so will talk to Sarah next Tuesday.
