Just Clive, Jonathan and myself in today, Len was not well and John was partying, or so the story goes!

The order of the day was to replace blown bulbs in the station platform lights at Heywood Station and then to install the two strings of Christmas lights.

The mobile tower scaffold had been recovered from Rawtenstall by Simon during the week, the scaffold would be needed to replace the light bulbs. The scaffold was then loaded along with the two boxes of Christmas lights onto the 11:00 D.M.U. which was caught to Heywood Station.

Simon the full time electrician had bought about eight new halogen bulbs at a cost of £40.00 each plus the dreaded VAT, the council had not given it too much thought regarding cost when the lights were originally bought and fitted. We are now lumbered with the cost of replacing the expensive bulbs periodically.
Eight bulbs were replaced in the platform lights and a two or three are still not working after bulb replacement, the fuses and wiring will need to be checked next Sunday.

Lunch was then taken in the warmth of Heywood Station waiting room with a brew from the train buffet which just happened to be in the station.

After lunch we got on with the job of erecting the two strings of Christmas lights, this took up most of the afternoon. We had just finished putting up the last string of lights when the DMU rolled into the station, the next train would be too late for us so we hastily packed up our equipment and loaded it onto the guards van.

Testing and replacing blown bulbs on the Heywood Station Christmas light will have to wait till next Sunday when we will test and replace any blown bulbs at Rawtenstall Station as well.

Out of curiosity what lamps/bulbs are they?

At my work we use Metal halides extensively on our site and don't pay that much. Have you looked on line. After saying that as they fail we are converting to LED 50W floods ( equivalent to 150 - 200 W lamps) at around £50 per unit with 11,000 hrs average life.

I will make a note of the types of lamp we use at Heywood on Sunday and post the info. next report.
