A full team turned out today after Clive and John had attended last weeks RSGB radio show in Blackpool, both are avid radio hams.
Len also returned after his late night gig last weekend, he said he was shattered after all that strumming on his uke.
Jonathan was in first followed by myself, Clive, Len and John, first job Jonathan and myself did was to reassemble the two canopy light fittings which we had taken down from Rawtenstall last week.
We were then joined by Simon the ELR full time electrician who wanted us to check out a job at Ramsbottom Station, this would involve running a new armoured electrical cable from the main distribution board in the Station to the Naffi hut near the footbridge.
Some digging will be required and some plastic ducts installing before we can tackle this particular job.
An early lunch was taken in the warmth of the waiting room whilst waiting for the next train to Rawtenstall to refit the two canopy light fittings.
On arrival at Rawtenstall Station we informed the Station Master what we were doing and asked if we could borrow his step ladders to enable us to refit the lights.
The two light fittings were rewired and screwed into the underside of the canopy, then tested to ensure all the lights were working satisfactory.
The kind ladies in the carriage cafe gave us all a brew before we caught the train back to Bury
To be continued after we have had our Dinner.
Back from our dinner of a lovely fillet steak and a decent red wine i will carry on with the report.
On returning to our workshop in BBS, Jonathan and myself went to the C & W workshop and our way we met Lee Kenny the gaffer of the C & W shed, we asked his permission to cut off the old carriage plug leads off one of the carriages that had a do not move label on it, due to a leaking vacumn pipe.
The four leads were cut off a taken back to the workshop were we set about stripping them down, ready for refurbishment.
A brew was taken and on reading the ELRPS minutes of the last meeting kindly delivered by Mr. John Tate, I read that one of the items brought up at the last meeting of the society, was that the two lights outside of the entrance doors to BBS Station were not working.
John and myself went to investigate, we knew that the lights were controlled by a time clock in the booking hall, on inspection it was found that someone, I wonder who, had tampered with the time clock mechanism, thus rendering the time clock not being able to switch the lights on and off.
Hmmm who was it I wonder?
We rectified the problem with the time clock, the lights now work from 22:00 hours to 06:00 hours, who ever is messing about with any of the electrical apparatus on the ELR railway PLEASE DISSIST, only the Electrical Department are allowed to do such work, unless some one else, who is competent has been authorised to do so by the Electrical Department.
With that we had our last brew and called it a day.
