The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 5-6-2011.

I was back from holiday so today we had a full compliment of volunteers today, John, Jonathan, Clive, Len and myself.
First job was to clean up the workshop of accumalated debris from the past few weeks.
Len and Jonathan went off to test the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside Cafe/Pub and recorded their findings.
I stripped down and painted two carriage plug cover which had years of rust and paint removed.
A water boiler had been left in our workshop so Jonathan investigated what was wrong with the boiler, it was found that the element was not working. Jonathan fitted a spare element then filled the boiler with water to see if the water would boil and that the thermostat was working, all was well with no water leaks. The boiler was then tested with the insulation tester and marked up as tested OK.
We then cleaned up twelve moulded MK2 carriage plugs, the brass pins and rubber bodies were all wire brushed and continuity and insulation tested.
Jonathan and Len then went down to the Carriage and Wagon shed to see if any carriages required their plugs changing, one blue and grey carriage was found so all four plugs were changed for refurbished ones.
The plug covers were stripped and cleaned before being refitted.
John meanwhile was investigating the problems with another water boiler which had been given to us to test, heating element and switch problems were found, we shall have to see if it is economical to repair.
Four platform lights at BBS are not working, we will have to order some spare units before they can be repaired.
That was it for this week, what is in store next week, tune in and turn on!
