The Electrical Volunters Report Sunday 20-2-2011.

Jonathan came in on Saturday to strip down some more carriage plugs after which he painted them with black metal paint.
On Sunday John, Len and myself met up in our workshop, first things first, we had a brew then a knock on the door was heard it turned out to be Keith from the Joiners Shop, he asked us to check out his router which was playing up electrically. We soon found the problem which turned out to be a broken wire in the mains cord. We cut off about a foot of cord nearest the router and rewired it in the router before testing it out.
We returned it to a gratefull Keith in his workshop down at the carriage and wagon works.
On the way down to the carriage and wagon shed we stopped off to have a word with the signal man in Bury South Box, to tell him we would be working in carriage siding one and two.
The idea was to put self amalgamating tape round the heat shrink tubing on some of the refurbished carriage plugs, this is to prevent water ingress because some of the heat shrink we had fitted did not have any adhesive inside the heat shrink.
We managed to do about twelve carriages before tackling the stock that was in use hauled by the capprotti standard four and the standard two.
This involved a trip up to Heywood and Bury Bolton Street to ensure that we would be able to do both sides of the carriages, not easy to do with all the steam leaks on both sets that were in use.
On returning to our workshop we did some more work on the seemingly never ending carriage plugs.
That was that for another Sunday.
