The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 14-11-2010.

Jonathan was in on Saturday working on the refurbishment of carriage plug components, he was having a few problems with the electricity supply to our workshop, the circuit breaker supplying power to our workshop kept tripping out, sometimes staying on for about a hour to a hour and a half.
Jonathan investigated and found that the junction box outside the workshop was damp, this proved to be the source of the problem as we found out on Sunday.
The Sunday team consisted of Jonathan, Len, Clive, John and myself, the first job was to sort out our electricity supply, when Jonathan told us of the problems and what he had found on Saturday, we reset the circuit breaker and sure enough it tripped out after a few minutes. On resetting the circuit breaker we took the cover off the junction box outside our workshop and discovered smoke coming out of the box.
Jonathan and Len went to do the fire alarm call point tests in BBS and The Trackside, while the rest of us started to source the components needed to repair our power supply, the glands were sourced from our cabin at Baron Street and a new junction box from our stores.
We isolated the supply and stripped the two cables down from the old plastic junction box and re-terminated the cables using new cable glands and shrouds, water had been seeping into the cable glands over time this is what had caused the fault.
The new box was fixed to the outside wall then the cables and glands were assembled and wired up, after testing hey presto, has they say many hands make light work.
Lunch was then taken with a welcome brew before we made a start on platform two Christmas lights, by now it was getting a bit chilly.
We made short work of putting up the lights down platform two using our tower scaffold, before connecting them up and doing a lamp test.
A short string of lights were then put up outside The Trackside, these will be lengthened next week as they are not long enough, we need some more bulbs to complete the lamp checks on both sets of lights.
The last job we did was to modify our control box controlling the platform two Christmas lights, this involved altering the wiring after fitting another switch.
Another full day for the electrical volunteers, Summerseat next week me thinks?
