The Electrical Volunteers report Sunday 21-11-2021.

Post by asbibby »

:D Great day today all the electrical volunteers in today on a lovely winters day, blue skies and plenty sunshine, Jonathan, John, Len, Clive, Colin and myself. 8)

It was then time for a brew and some chocolate brownies and some Mr Kiplings finest washed down with a cuppa.

We then fitted a new LED light fitting to the security lights outside of BBS Station, spares had been ordered a couple of weeks ago.

The first report was that the Christmas lights on the overbridge at Bury Bolton Street Station and the Christmas lights at Ramsbottom Station had tripped out. :x
The overbridge problem turned out to be two faulty transformers on two strings of LED light, they were isolated and new ones will have to be sourced.

An early lunch was taken in our workshop before catching the next train to Rawtenstall.

All six of us then caught the next train to Rawtenstall Station, Clive, Colin and John then got off the train at Summerseat Station to rectify a fault on the Station lights, we knew that the electronic timer had failed and the circuit had been switched to manual override, to illuminate the Station platform.
Clive had sourced a replacement electronic timer and this was duly fitted and set up to switch the Station lights automatically during hours of darkness on Saturday and Sunday, with the aid of a photo-cell as well.
The Station lights were then tested to ensure they came on and off at the correct times. :)

Myself, Jonathan and Len alighted at Ramsbottom Station to sort out the problem with the Christmas lights, we got out the big ladders and checked out the circuit breakers on the lamp standard. One of the string of lights had become very taught were it was plugged into the mains socket probably causing the lights to trip the circuit breakers.
Slack was put back in the string of lights and the circuit breakers reset, the lights are now OK. 8)

On arrival back at BBS we received a call from the Bury Standard 4 Group asking us if we could have a look at one of their machines as it would not power up after tripping out.
The problem was a blown fuse in the machine isolation electrical box, this fuse was replaced and the machine was now fine.

The final job that had been reported to us that the Blue Button summoning the Station staff to assist the public in using the barrow crossing at BBS was not working.
A new battery was fitted and the button tested OK, all the other four buttons were tested summoning Station staff were also tested.

We shall be back next Sunday when the first of the Santa trains starts, to ensure if any electrical problems raise their ugly head we can sort them. :D
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
