The Electrical Volunteers report Sunday 22-08-2021.

Post by asbibby »

:D Today i was joined by Clive, John, Jonathan and Len, first task was to test out the fire alarm call points in Bury Bolton Street Station, the test proved OK and the result recorded. :)

The weather forecast today was quite pleasant, dry and sunny so this was a plus. :D

Clive and Len caught the train up to Rawtenstall to check on the clock mechanism.

Next task was to reassemble two refurbished canopy lights and test them, we then got out the mobile tower scaffold and took the lights over to platform 3/4 followed by the scaffold.

Myself and Jonathan had received a report that the toilet in trap one of the ladies toilet on platform two was not working, on investigation it turned out to be blown electronics in the LED light fitting. A message was left for Simon to order a replacement unit.

Clive and Len had now returned from the job at Rawtenstall Station to help with tasks on platform 3/4.
The scaffold was erected to enable us to erect the refurbished lights and remove the last two canopy light for refurbishment.
The platform lights were then checked to make sure they were illuminated when switched on.

Lunch was then taken in the shade as it was quite hot in the sun. 8)

We had noticed that one of the platform lights on platform 2 had a filament bulb fitted instead of a LED lamp so the scaffold was taken up to the lamp post to change the lamp.

John, Len and Clive went to the Bury Standard 4 Shed to fit a repaired switch knife contact which we had been working on last week.
Clive had repaired the knife switch contact at home by using epoxy resin and reinforcing it with extra plastic, resin and small nuts and bolts.
The repair was sound and the power turned on, then the machine checked to ensure it was working, success

It was then one final brew with chocolate eclairs provided by Sue, then all our gear was stored away before heading off home.

We shall be back in two weeks time, holidays and what not, MMMmmmmm.

Yes, quite a busy Sunday.

The redesign of the driver for the ABC (automatic bell controller) at RWT station incorporated a 3amp fuse because the actuator takes that much but only for a fraction of a second but enough to eventually blow a 1 amp fuse. So I installed one of those self-healing gizmos. It only trips after a few secs so it will protect both the transformer and the actuator if summat goes wrong.

Does anybody know anything about the mech for the tower clocks at RWT?

Regards the lollipop lamps on BBS P2. Is there anyone who can concoct an adaptor for us? To mount the lamp heads on the posts.

And finally. Has anybody seen our bench grinder? It vanished a couple of weeks ago.
