The Electrical Volunteers report Sunday 25-07-2021.

Post by asbibby »

:) A full team out today for the first time in well over eighteen months, Clive, Colin, Jonathan, John, Len and myself, we had a swift brew and then went off to do the fire alarm call point tests on Bury Bolton Street Station.
All was well and the results recorded in the log book. :D

Clive and Colin caught the train up to Rawtenstall station with the repaired booking hall clock control mechanism to see if they could get the clock working again. 8)

The locomotives out today were BR Standard 4 80097 and the A4 Union of South Africa 60009 to the photographers delight, the carriages appeared to be quite full as well, the ELR slowly recovering from the past traumatic few months. :P

Jonathan, John and Len re-assembled the two platform 3/4 canopy lights which we had refurbished last Sunday, they were then tested to ensure they worked OK.

Jonathan, John and Len went to the mess room on platform 3/4 to repair a switched fuse spare which was damaged, this was completed and tested.

I attended a board meeting of the Bury Steam Locomotive co. Ltd. in the FXP building from 09:30 to 11:00.

The mobile tower scaffold was then brought out of storage and along with the refurbished light units taken over to platform 3/4 ready for us to reinstate them.

Lunch was then taken in the sunshine outside our workshop with another refreshing brew.

It was then back to platform 3/4 to swap out the next pair of light units for the refurbished ones, the units which had been taken down were taken, using a sack truck back to our workshop. The refurbished lights were fitted and tested to ensure they were working.

Clive and Colin had by now returned from their excursion to Rawtenstall, with not the result they were hoping for.
We all settled for a brew with chocolate eclairs Tesco's finest supplied by Sue. :D

The two units which we had taken down were then stripped cleaned, rubbed down with an electrical sander before being painted by Jonathan and Colin. 8)

Back next week to carry on with the refurbishment of the canopy lights. :)
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
