Sunday bright and early saw Len returning after a couple of weeks off looking after his wife, we were then joined by Jonathan, John and Simon the full time electrician.
First task was to test the fire alarm call points as usual in BBS and the Trackside, everything was normal and we recorded the results in the log books.
An electrical fault report form had been filled out asking us to check out the battery charger for the carriages, this charger is the big yellow 24v charger, normally kept under platform three/four. It was reported as having only two pins and that it sparked on plugging it into the charging socket on the carriages.
The output of the charger was checked out OK and the charger does indeed have only two pins, one positive and one negative, and it will spark when plugged into the charging socket, that is normal.
The form was signed off as done.
Jonathan and Len then carried on with some PAT testing on more portable electrical appliances in our workshop, we will be visiting all departments in due course testing all extension leads and portable electrical tools etc.
Len and John wired up a new lead for our heat gun and tested it, John and myself stripped down a failed electrical wire brush, the switch was faulty which was fixed but still it did not work, more testing is needed on the brushes or the motor may have burnt out.
Lunch was then taken before catching the frequent services of the diesel gala up to Summerseat Station to try to extract the long masonry drill that had become stuck in the brickwork of the electrical cubicle last week. The big 110v electrical drill was tightened up onto the drll bit sticking out of the brickwork and with a bit of grunt we managed to free the drill.
The electrical cubicle was then measured up and we attempted to drill through the two courses of brickwork and at the third attempt managed to drill straight through in the correct position, we will come back next week to finish off the connections to the signalling compartment.
On returning to our workshop we carried on with more PAT testing and began sourcing the bits and pieces we would need for next week up at Summerseat.
A good brew was had along with Len's fruit cake which he had kindly brought in for us all to share, did Simon get his fair share?
Watch out for the phantom stalker at Summerseat Station!
