The Sunday Electrical Volunteers Report 26-2-2012.

Post by asbibby »

A full team were out and about today, apart from Len, Jonathan came in on Saturday stripping down carriage plugs which we had recovered the previous week.

Jonathan and myself went to do the weekly checks on the fire alarm call points in The Trackside and the booking office, everything was satisfactory and the findings were recorded in the fire alarm log book.

Clive and John went to do a lamp check at the stations, we need this information on what type of lights are fitted in the various rooms to enable us to replace any lamps when staff report a lamp or a light fitting not working.
We have a database in our workshop were all the details are entered into an Excel database.

Jonathan and myself walked up to the carriage and wagon workshop to see if any new carriages were in for refurbishment, none were found so we proceeded to the sleeper carriage to see if we could gain access to carry on with the wiring of the fire alarm/emergency lighting system.
The carriage was locked so we noticed that the sleeper had old carriage plugs fitted, so we obtained a hacksaw and removed the plugs and leads for refurbishment back in our workshop.

Lunch was taken when we were joined by John who had left Clive to carry on with the light checks on the stations.

The four carriage plugs and leads we had removed had their seized retaining brass screws drilled out by Jonathan in the C & W workshop using their pillar drill.
The old paint on the plugs was then removed before leaving them to soak in an oily bath to release the internal components.

John and myself did a lamp & light check on the station platforms and the Trackside pub/cafe at BBS, all the rooms in the booking hall will be done next week.
All the information gleaned was entered into our database back in our workshop.

That was it for another Sunday after an enjoyable dry day seeing the busy movement of the various trains and engines at BBS, sometimes it was just like Clapham Junction.

Totally agree about the train movements at Bury on a Gala weekend. Few if any Railways can match trains in 3 platforms,May shunting past with P Way Dogfish wagons and a light engine move returning the class 40 to Castlecroft when their was a free road, all whilst enjoying the new menu in the Trackside and the difficult job of choosing your next pint from 9 top cask ales mainly brewed locally.
Keep up the good work Boys, you do one of the essential but unsung jobs around the railway.
