The Sunday Electrical Volunteers Report 11-12-2011.

A slightly depleted team turned up today, Len was still feeling unwell and John was having a deserved rest from duties, what a dreadfull day it was, persistantely raining most of the day.

Jonathan and myself checked the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside before it started to get busy, everything was working satisfactory and our findings were logged.

Simon the full time electrician joined us along with Clive, Simon had received a report that a circuit breaker was making a strange noise in the signalling store underneath the stairs on platform three/four.
The circuit breaker was changed for a spare which appeared to sort out the problem, later we decided to upgrade the circuit breaker from a 25A breaker to a 40A breaker.
This was checked a few hours later to ensure everything was as it should be, the breakers were not overheating and the cables were cool.

Jonathan was due a medical at lunch time followed by myself a little later, when I got back to our workshop Jonathan and Clive had gone up to Summerseat Station to investigate a reported problem with the Station lights not working when it was becoming dark.
The problem turned out to be a faulty electronic timer controlling the lights, Clive bypassed the timer to enable the lights to work controlled by the photocell and brought the timer back to the workshop to see what the problem was with it.

Bury South signal box was our next job to provide more switched socket outlets, we provided a new ring main system from the main distribution board and upped the switched sockets from two to six sockets.
This will now enable the signalling staff to have all their appliances on switched sockets instead of juggling the plugs around when they wanted an appliance switching on.

While we were in the signal box we replaced a blown 25w bulb which had just expired and left them with two spare bulbs.

The Christmas lights outside The Trackside were realigned and some bulbs replaced, some of the bulbs had been too close to the wall of the building and had smashed when the strong winds had been blowing last week.

Clive stripped down the timer, it appears that it was suffering from damp as the buttons controlling the timer were not working correctly.
Simon will order a new timer to be fitted by us next week.

A final brew was taken and a welcome warm in the workshop, whats in store next week?

Many thanks for your hard work in Bury South today Alan. It is appreciated. I will enjoy being able to use various electrical equipment without having to scrabble on the floor trying to find the requisite plug that has fallen down behind the cooker! I am sure that applies to all the other BS Men too.

Have you managed to sort out the water heater from Townsend Fold or is that still on your 'To Do' list? (I am not hassling, just interested in case anyone asks me what is happening with it.)

We had too much to do yesterday so it will have to be next Sunday for the Townsend Fold water heater, all being well.

Thanks for the info Alan. I suspected that would be the case. I have not had any complaints about its absence and I can now pre-empt any in the coming week.
