Re: The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 09-6-2013.

It is a pity that the state of this gents toilet facility at Baron Street is in such a state, it is not fit for purpose at present, the toilet ceiling is covered in cob webs, the paint is peeling off the walls, discarded toilet rolls litter the place, toilet cubicles are very dirty and the toilet b...

Re: Howson Bar E1871

Will the Howson Bar be able to be modified so that more use of it as a buffet can be made? It can be used as a buffet right now. It has a perfectly good counter and servery area, that in some respects is superior to the other RMBs - i.e. it's lockable! It's been fitted with a trickle charger so tha...

Re: Howson Bar E1871

Aidy, thanks for the detailed description of how Deltic ETH is derived from the generators. I always knew it was an unstable voltage because of how it was fed from the main gens, but never really understood exactly why. Learn something new every day... :) For those interested, there's quite a bit of...

Re: Howson Bar E1871

Well, there's a few things which favour equipping 1871 with a generator. I understand there's been investigations into: a) Reinstating a propane-powered galley - apparently difficult because of the mods made by Intercity when 1871 was re-engineered in the 90s to have an electric galley. This also do...

Re: The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 17-6-2012.

Lunch was then taken back in our workshop at BBS with chocolates provided by Len's wife. <snip> We went back to our workshop for a brew and to finish of some chocolate proffiteroles that I had brought in. Do I detect an arms-race brewing between Electrical and Pway on who has the best cakes and pas...

Older hand dryers are designed around a stream of warm air to dry the hands, as opposed to airflow, and have quite substantial heating elements in as a result. More modern, energy efficient dryers use the speed of the air to accelerate the evaporation of the water from the hands, as opposed to heat,...

I do wonder sometimes if people ever look for the wider picture before thinking things are suppressed! It's a commercial contract generating revenue for the railway - and that helps in allowing us to operate this fantastic railway. That's what I was getting at Andy. They've paid their money, so it'...

Again though, why didn't the ELR get mentioned as the place Sapper was visiting? I suspect the TV production company paid the railway well for the use of the ELR as a nice backdrop of "old trains". They will be paying to film on the railway, so it's therefore up to them, not the ELR, whet...

I will check the vehicle number tomorrow but the carriage we are working on and referred to here is an ex-Regional Railways BSO. It is very close to the gate to Baron Street behind C & W and has been buried down there for a number of years. Ah, that one is Mk2a BSO 9418. 8) Sounds like two proj...

Re: The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 3-7-2011.

Well the surprise was down at the Carriage & Wagon sidings in the shape of W5017 a MK1 TSO which is used on the Santa formation this being two by two seating with a central isle and dual heating, electric/steam. I think you mean W5031. It often sees year round use. I wondered why it was stabled...

No, Martin assures us that RSG will be back on ELR metals for the Easter weekend, and available for other existing mainline commitments - see http://royalscotsgrey.wordpress.com/

Clive, just last weekend, at the diesel gala, I noticed the Summerseat lights going on and off in the middle of the day on Sunday, when passing through with a train.

Re: Batteries.

The electrical workshop is located under the stairs at BBS, is there a duplicate of the defects report, one of which will stay in the book and the other one can then be put in an envelope and posted underneath our door, marked up for the Electrician's attention. This way we will get to know of any ...
