 It was April fools day plus one on Sunday, so no tall tales, I was joined by Len, John, Clive and Jonathan, after a brew and something to nibble on we took some time to decide what was going to be the order of the day.

John had obtained from one of his many contacts a Smiths speedometer that had come from a London underground train, this came with some info. on its operation. We looked into this as a possible replacement for the moving coil instrument that has come off it's bearings, does anybody know of an instrument mechanic who can see if our moving coil speedo can be repaired?

The underground train speedo will not work with the generator off the Standard 4 80097, the voltages are different due to the different sizes of driving wheels.

The Bury Standard 4 Group shop staff asked us if we would PAT test some model railway control equipment before it was sold to the public, six items were tested and had new plugs fitted also.
All passed apart from one controller which was scrapped.

It was then decided to catch the next train up to Rawtenstall Station to take down six platform lamp heads which are now due for painting, on reaching Rawtenstall the two stage ladders were nowhere to be found, does anyone know were they are?
They usually are in the booking office behind the door.
No ladders so we caught the train back to Bury Bolton Street Station and did some sorting out of our stock. :x

A final brew was had with some jam roll poly which Clive had brought in, nice. :D

Back next week for some more fun and games, hopefully up to Rawtenstall with some ladders!

The going price for a Smiths steam speedo is a mouth watering £1200 or so!

The speedo head we have just requires fettling by someone who knows what they are doing, it is a case of finding someone with that expertise.
I have had a message re. someone who may be able to help, watch this space.

80097's boiler is at ADE, it is hoped it will have water in it after Easter to facilitate an hydraulic test.

I'm told that the ladders are now in the cleaning store, next to the beer store.

David, who holds the key? we had a look at the van next to the beer wagon on Sunday and it does not appear to be a standard lock.
