The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 21-06-2015.

Post by asbibby »

Sunday saw a full team today, John, Jonathan, Len, Clive and myself, with it being a "Peppa the Pig", family fun day we decided to carry on with the work of rewiring the description display stands, out of site behind one of the buses in BTM. :D

Len and Jonathan tested the fire alarm call point tests before the customers started to arrive at BBS and The Trackside pub/cafe, all was well and they recorded their findings.

We received a report that a fluorescent unit has failed in The Bury Standard Four Group shop, i went up to have a look and the unit will be replaced next week with a tested second hand unit.

Great progress is being made on the canopy on platform two, half of the roof as now been glazed and is waterproof with customers already making use of the facility.

The four steel lamp posts are being prepared by the civil engineering department and are been painted ready for erection past the canopy on platform two, this will light up all the total length of the platform when trains arrive there.
We are going to order the fixings, conduit boxes and pyro to connect the new canopy light fittings, twenty new ones have been manufactured by the carriage & wagon staff.
We require ten for platform two and the others will be for the Rawtenstall Station canopy and one or two spares.

We had a brew first of all before collecting our tools and equipment and made our way to the Museum in Castlecroft yard.
Len and John fitted the new locking nuts on four lighting units, new wiring was fished up the metalwork and terminated into the lamp holders. A new earth point was connected and finally the new wiring was connected up to the electrical plug and sockets.

The task is quite labour intensive, first we have to saw off the top of the lighting post to gain access to the light fitting, then strip out the electrical light unit along with the wiring and earthing point.
The light unit is then refitted with a spring washer and nut before installing the new three core cable and relocating the earth point at the top of the lighting unit, the mains plug is then finally wired onto the new cable. :)

lunch was taken back in our workshop after we had completed four of the units, it was then back to the museum to complete another three units before we retired back to our workshop for a brew and a piece of chocolate cake which John had brought in for us all to sample.

This leaves us with just six light fittings left to do, we should complete the job next week.

All the rewired units will have to be PAT tested once more once we have completed the job.

Alan omitted to say that the reason the display stand lights had failed was because of the intense heat generated by the GU10 bulbs. We hope to get LED versions.

More important. I was hoping to obtain the double sided drum clock at Victoria Station (Manch) It's no longer there as they're altering the whole place. Does any body know someone who can help? it'd be nice to have it (or another one) for Platform 2!
