The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 27-4-2014.

Post by asbibby »

:D Jonathan came in again on Saturday to refurbish and paint the last three lamp heads from Ramsbottom Station which we had removed last week. They were all ready for reassembling when the rest of us came in on Sunday.

On Sunday Jonathan was in first followed by Len, Myself, and welcoming back back Clive and John who have been unwell for the past few weeks. :D

We all had a brew first, Clive had brought in two packets of apple tarts for us to sample, the other packet will be scoffed next week.

The lamp heads that Jonathan had finished on Saturday were reassembled and tested in our workshop ready to be installed at Ramsbottom Station.

The fire alarm call points were tested in The Trackside and Bury Bolton Street station and the findings recorded.

We then caught the next train up to Ramsbottom with our long ladders, the lamp heads, our tools, plus a selection of screws, 110 volt transformer, and a mains extension lead, specially made up so that we could use our 110v drill on some of the broken lamp covers.

The three lamp heads were refitted and tested, a lamp test was done on all the platform lights and two were found to be not working, this turned out to be broken fuses which were replaced.

The lamp post covers, three of them were drilled and new screws fitted to hold the covers securely in place, once this job was done we had lunch in the sunshine at the picnic table in the station.

Clive paid a visit to Ramsbottom signal box to fit a protection device across the line controlling the remote switching of Summerseat Station platform lights.

The Station Master at Ramsbottom had told us earlier that there was a problem with the tannoy system on platform two, the last three speakers on the Bury end had stopped working. This problem was investigated and turned out to be a bad crimp connection in one of the lamp posts, the crimps were cut out and the wires re terminated into a new connection strip.

All our equipment and tools were then loaded back onto the train for our return journey back to our workshop in Bury, were we tucked into a Birthday cake which Len had brought in a couple of weeks ago. It was still fresh but a bit cold being in the fridge for the last couple of weeks.

Most of us then went up to the C & W shed to drop off some tins for the C & W staff to use and to do a lamp check.
The Jinty engine was being given it's Thomas livery ready for the next Day out with Thomas weekend, what a cracking job was being done.

We then paid a visit to Buckley Wells engine shed to do another lamp check and to see the progress on the crab engine, let's hope the engine as a successful steam test shortly and is back in action on the ELR soon.

We will have to order some more spare five foot fluorescent tubes after doing a lamp check at the C & W and Buckley Wells, these will be done soon.

I noticed that the wire fence behind the wooden palisades on Rammy Platform 2 about 3/4 way towards Bury needs some extra staples before the hooligans get to it.
