The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 16-6-2013.

:) Jonathan was first in the workshop today followed by myself, Simon and Clive, John was at a party, Chris was at a wedding and Len was feeling under the weather.

Simon and his midweek team are nearing completion of the rewiring on platform three/four at Bury Bolton Street station, we will be in a position shortly to connect up the mains supply from the old distribution box to the new distribution box on the side of the cafe.

Simon had been busy yesterday down at Buckley Wells carriage and wagon shed when the supply to the main isolator burnt out, a replacement was sourced and with the help of Martin Ward the cable was cut back, re terminated and the supply restored.

Meanwhile Jonathan and myself went off to test out the fire alarm call points in The Trackside and BBS station all worked satisfactory and the details recorded.

Clive joined us and we decided to go over to the Bury Transport Museum to sort out the outside lamp post lighting fault, we would need Simon's assistance as he holds the keys to the electrical distribution room.
The problem turned out to be a blown bulb in the lamp post nearest the telephone box in the yard and a carbon flash over in the lamp-holder of the adjacent lamp post, this was sorted out by replacing a bulb and removing the lamp-holder and cleaning it up.
The outside lamps are controlled by a photo cell and a seven day time clock, the clock was reset and all six lamps were tested OK.

Lunch was then taken back in the workshop with some yummy coconut cake baked by Clive's wife Sarah, there was enough for seven of us but we managed to scoff the lot, sorry Gents.

The next job was to sort out some Christmas lights which had been given to us, they were previously used on platform three/four at BBS before being replaced by LED lighting. Three separate strings all of about fifty metres in length were tested, these will be used at Rawtenstall to replace a life expired set we used last year.
We will take a trip up to Rawtenstall to measure the total length of lights required to cover the full length of the platform.

With that we polished off the remains of the coconut cake washed down with a final brew of the day, back next week. :D

I noticed that the internal phone system is now in a worse state than it was a week ago.

Not only does it not work from Bury to Ramsbottom or to Rawtenstall but some of the phones at Bury are now without dial tone (You get NU tone when you pick up the handset instead)

Obviously the new exchange is either unfit for purpose or more likely it's maintenance isn't.

Come back Graham!
