The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 19-5-2013.

Post by asbibby »

:D It was back to normality this week after going down to Wembley to see Wigan Athletic demolish City in the FA cup final.

I was joined on Sunday by Jonathan, Len and John, Clive was unwell and Chris was also feeling under the weather.

We decided to see if we could locate the three missing horizontal bars from our mobile tower scaffold, the undercroft was checked out first because that is were we normally stored the scaffold, the undercroft had had a considerable amount of work done, clearing out years of rubbish and muck.
The old scaffold was there but no sign of the three missing red bars, what we also discovered was the perspex covers we stored in the right hand corner have vanished, these are covers for the pit lighting we were planning to use and renovate.
If anyone knows were they are please let us know.
The next place to check was the C & W shed this was one of the last locations we know about apart from when it was used by the Signal & Telegraph department on the Bury South gantry, do you know were the missing bars are?
We then checked out the steam shed to see if any parts were there, nothing, we can't use the full height of the scaffold without the three missing horizontal red marked bars, the diagonal bars all five of them are all present and correct.

Len and Jonathan then went to check out the fire alarm call points in BBS and the Trackside, all was working correctly and the findings recorded.

We then cleaned up the mud splashes from the fibreglass cover protecting the electrical distribution board in the undercroft which had previously been cleared, new waterproof lights will have to be installed soon.

Lunch was then taken with John providing a chocolate sponge cake for us all to sample, and very nice it was.

Four carriage plugs which Chris had been working on were then finished off and tested, ready for fitting on another carriage.

We then went back to the C & W shed to fit a carriage plug and lead which was now ready for fitting after metalwork repairs on one of the IT57 carriages being repainted, we found that the three wires the are wired on the pattress controlling the lights from the guards position were all shorting together, this will be investigated next week.

One of the last jobs was to remove all the dual trunking lids from the damp undercroft, these are all galvanised but due to the ends being in touch with the damp walls and floor have started to lose there corrosion resistance, these were cleaned up with wire brushes prior to being touche up with zinc paint. They will eventually be fitted back onto the dual trunking once we have finished the rewire of BBS Station this Summer. The mid week electrical volunteers are doing a great job on the rewiring with Simon the full time electrician.

That was it for another Sunday, back next week, don't mention the war!

It can be heavy work but it would only cost you a chocolate sponge cake every week.

 We will pass on that then, it is Mr. Kiplings raspberry and apple pies this Sunday, Len may miss out as he is playing his banjo with some fellow banjo players somewhere on the railway.

Me thinks we will keep to sparking. :D
