The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 10-2-2013.

Post by asbibby »

:D Jonathan came in again on Saturday to paint and rewire the three Bury Bolton Street Station canopy light fittings, which we had taken down last Sunday, ready for us to re-install today, Sunday.
Jonathan also took the time to change a timer on our background heater in the workshop for a thermostat controller.

I was joined by Jonathan on Sunday with Clive, Len and John, Chris is on a break for a couple of weeks.
Len and Jonathan went off to do the usual tests on the fire alarm call points at The Trackside and BBS Station, all was well and they recorded the findings in the appropriate log books.

Clive had purchased some new chain from one of his suppliers, this chain is used to suspend the canopy light fittings from the roof of the canopy, we had run short of chain the previous week.

John and myself reassembled the light fittings which Jonathan had refurbished whilst Len and Clive collected the mobile tower scaffold from the undercroft.
The three tested light fittings were carried across to platform three/four of BBS and the scaffold quickly followed, once the DMU service had left for Rawtenstall we erected the scaffold and proceeded to change the three light fittings and renew the chain which holds them in position.
Lunch was then taken with a warming brew back in our workshop.

After lunch we stripped down the two remaining canopy light fittings which we had just taken down, they had the old wiring taken out the perspex covers cleaned, ready for painting at a later date.
These two spare light fittings can be used along with another four fittings which we are going to make up, they can be used, if and when the new canopy is erected outside of The Trackside pub on platform two at BBS.

Phil from The Bury Standard Four Group, who are restoring the Standard Four engine 80097 at the end of platform two at BBS, came to see if we had a spare 13A plug which we duly supplied out of our donated stock.
Whilst in the BS4G workshop the staff asked if it would be possible to install six 110v electrical plug points around both sides of the workshop, instead of at present lugging a heavy 110v transformer here there and everywhere, being a BS4G member i will purchase the material needed and complete the job later in the month or early next month.

That was it for another day in the electrical department, see you all next week.

That's how the cookie crumbles!

I didn't mention, but we did manage to have a Christmas cake type slice of fruit cake each with our afternoon tea break.
