The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 18-11-2012.

Post by asbibby »

Jonathan came in on Saturday doing more work on the carriage plug refurbishment program.

On Sunday i was joined by Jonathan, John, Clive, Chris and Len the rest of us went over to Museum to collect our mobile tower scaffold whilst Len & Jonathan tested out the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside.

The Christmas lights that we normally erect on platform two at BBS were dug out from our workshop and loaded onto the scaffold along with all our tools as we headed headed up to Rawtenstall Station.
On arrival at Rawtenstall we set out the Christmas lights on the platform to see how long the string of lights were and to ascertain the best position to erect the lights.
We started from the third platform light down and finished up opposite the carriage cafe, the lights are very heavy and they took some fixing on the lamp posts.
Lunch was then taken in the cafe with tea & coffee kindly given to us by the lady and gent who run the cafe.
Next task was to find an access into the carriage which would be near the electrical distribution board, we calculated that with all the lights we would need a new twenty amp circuit breaker fitting in the distribution board with extension leads to enable the Christmas lights to be switched off when not needed. This will be a requirement as the cafe will not be open whilst the Santa trains are running.
The lights were wired up temporarily and tested to see how many bulbs would need replacing, this test saw the first five bulbs lit and all the others not lit, a fault was found on one of the bayonet light fittings.
Some bulbs were replaced and others will have to be later when the wiring is made permanent.

The DMU was then boarded back to BBS and the tower scaffold returned to the museum, that was it for another day, Ramsbottom Christmas lights are to be erected next Sunday.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
