The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 4-11-2012.

Post by asbibby »

:D Jonathan came in on Saturday to repaint two of the BBS light fittings we had taken down last Sunday, ready for us to swap them for two more to be repainted on Sunday.

On Sunday i was joined by Jonathan, Len, Clive, John and Chris, Simon the full time electrician was having a day off after his engagement party which we attended on Saturday night.

In the under-croft a new fiberglass electrical enclosure has been fitted around the electrical switch-gear to protect it from the dampness were it is installed.
I moved the trunking lids which have been stored in the under-croft for the last few years, these were stored on some steel mesh to prevent them rusting in the damp environment, unfortunately someone had moved them onto the damp earth, they are now back in the original position, please leave them were they are.
We have drawn up new plans for the complete rewiring of BBS Station, this will hopefully take place early in the New Year, if we get permission from above!

Jonathan and Len tested out the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside, everything was working satisfactory and they recorded their findings.

Clive managed a fix last week on our mobile tower scaffold wheel which is being used in the canopy refurbishment at BBS, one of the wheels had come off and an internal cone is missing, also a clip is missing from the extension side pieces, if anyone knows were the clip and cone is please let us know.

The scaffold was used to re-erect the BBS Station clock after it had been repainted, serviced and cleaned, the clock was rewired to the control electronics and the internal light re-connected, all now works satisfactory.

We then changed two of the light fittings on platform three and four using the same mobile tower scaffold, we will be using this scaffold for the next two months to erect then take down all the Christmas lights at the various Stations on the railway.
Heywood station next week to change some failed station light bulbs and to erect the Christmas lights with the scaffold.

The old extension telephone bell adjacent to the telephone distribution box was removed for refurbishment and the telephone box moved along with some wiring to a more discreet place.

Lunch was then taken in our workshop after which Clive and John said they would check out Summerseat Station lights.
Armed with an extension ladder and some spare light bulbs Clive and John caught the DMU up to Summerseat Station to find out why two of the station lights were not working, this turned out to be blown bulbs and were replaced with new ones.

Chris and myself then carried on with removing redundant cables, wiring, cable clips and old metalwork which was used for the original electrical wiring or telephone system.
Meanwhile Len and Jonathan were stripping, painting and testing two of the light fittings we had previously changed, ready for re-erecting next week.

Clive and John then joined us after their trip to Summerseat Station to help dismantle and put away the mobile tower scaffold and all our tools.

That was it for another Sunday at The ELR.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
