The Sunday Electrical Volunteers Report 4-3-2012.

Post by asbibby »

On Saturday Jonathan came in to carry on with refurbishment work on our ongoing programme of carriage plug refurbishment, stripping years of paint off the shells etc.

Sunday was the diesel gala, the weather was a bit dodgy but it could have been a lot worse, at least nobody got soaked.

Jonathan and myself checked the fire alarm call points as usual in the Trackside and BBS, all was well and the findings were recorded.

We were then joined by John, Len was looking after his wife who is unwell at present, Clive was having a day off, he is not over keen on diesel traction.

Simon the full time electrician then joined us for a brew before asking if we would help out on supplying electricity to the containers in Baron Street yard.
We gathered up our tools and made our way down to Baron Street to find the container requiring the power, the unit had previously been connected up for lighting and heating but no socket outlets.
The old electrical units were dissconected and replaced by a consumer unit recovered from old The Standard Fayre building.

Lunch was taken back in our workshop before returning to Baron Street and wiring up the consumer unit to the existing tubular heaters and lighting units.
We will connect up some double sockets next week unless Simon does it.
The mains cable to the containers will also have to be extended to reach the new consumer unit, another job for later on.

That was as much as we could do on the container job so we all made our way back to our workshop in BBS, Simon went off to finish off some outstanding work in The Bury Transport Museum, whilst we improved the lighting in our workshop by fitting a new fluorescent unit.

That was it for another week, back next week for some more!
