The Sunday Electrical Volunteers Report 9-10-2011.

Post by asbibby »

A full team of Electrical volunteers turned out on Sunday accept for yours truly, who was at our motor club's single venue special stage rally at The Three Sisters Race Circuit, Wigan.
Jonathan was joined by Len, John and Clive in the workshop, the team was going to replace and repair five light fittings on Platform four at BBS.

Jonathan and Len went off to test the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside, everything was satisfactory and they recorded their findings in the log book.

Simon the full time electrician joined the team and a discussion to place with Simon ringing me to enquire the what was the situation with W5031 the Mark 1 TSO Santa carriage we have been working on.
We had previously replaced some internal wiring and replaced some external wiring along with resleeving some wiring with heat shrink tubing were the insulation had degraded.
All the internal fluorescents fittings had been tested and repaired along with the tungsten light fittings.
The carriage has had the steam heating pipe repaired at the toilet end and was due to have it's bogies replaced, this was done last week and the carriage was now positioned over the pit in the C & W shed.
The external lighting wiring was now more easily accessable to replace and refit more heat shrink tubing on wires which had previously been difficult to work on. To finish off all the wiring we had worked on was then given a coat of preserving paint. The pit along with the lighting in the pit itself makes these jobs a lot easier to do, the work was completed to Simon's satisfaction and the team retired back to the workshop for some lunch and a warm.

After lunch some thought was given to next week's task namely the replacement and repair of the station lights on platform four at BBS.
We have one spare fluorescent unit and one we repaired when the unit was knocked to the ground during the building of the Cafe extension on platform three/four. We also now have four spare electronic ballast/starters, these we have found in the past are the components that fail in the refurbished light fittings.
The mobile tower scaffold was then checked out but to our surprise it had dissappeared from it's storage space, I think Bob the Builder may know of it's wereabouts, Ramsbottom Signal Box?
If that is were it is could we have it back please, we need to gain access to the Station light fittings for next week.

That was it for another week in the life of The Sunday Electrical Volunters, i shall be back next Sunday.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
