The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 28-8-2011.

Post by asbibby »

Jonathan had left us a message in our workshop to say he had been in on Saturday and that he would see us all next week.
The wooden surround of the Ray Butcher clock was given it's final staining by Jonathan ready for installing in Baron Street Works. He then got to grips with cleaning and sorting loads of brass pins from the RCH plugs which had been soaking in vinegar for a couple of weeks.
Some RCH shell cases were then painted in black gloss before packing up for the day.

On Sunday after a BBQ party at Clive's place last night which most of us attended, Len John and myself turned up to carry on with the various jobs that required checking out.

Len and I carried out the fire alarm call point checks on The Trackside and BBS Station, we recorded our findings in the fire alarm log book, everything was satisfactory.

We then decided to load up John's van with the Ray Butcher clock and all our tools and some bitumen paint which would be used on the Santa carriage we have been working on for the past few weeks.

Down at Baron Street we unloaded the van and all our equipment and checked out the location were the clock is probably going to be fixed.
The control box was fitted in our wooden stores hut and connected back up to the mains, the clock was then mounted temporarily on top of the electrical distribution cabinets, the time was then reset.
We need an area adjacent to our hut clearing of equipment before we can erect our mobile tower scaffold, to enable us to fix the clock in it's final position.

We had a visit to our workshop earlier in the day by a volunteer asking us to investigate no power on some of the dual mains sockets in the sleeper carriage compartments down at Baron Street.
Mains voltage was not present on the first three compartments we were able to access, no circuit breakers had tripped in the electrical distribution board, so we left a note in our workshop and passed the fault on to to the full time electrician.

No heat shrink tubing had been left for us to complete the job on the Santa carriage so we turned our attention to the LMS stove/brake which was parked outside of the C & W shed, we fitted new LMS RCH refurbished plug/leads to the north end and temporarily fitted refurbished covers.
The south end RCH wiring as been exposed for us to apply heat shrink tubing which we hope to fit next Sunday along with newly refurbished LMS RCH plug/leads and covers.

That was it for another day out with The Electrical Volunteers Team.

Last what a great day it was for Wiganers, the rugby team won the Challenge Cup at Wembley and The Latics had their first win of the new Premier League season beating QPR 2 - 0 at The DW.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
