The Electrical Volunters Report Sunday 21-8-2011.

Post by asbibby »

On Saturday Jonathan came in to strip the wiring from the pins out of the RCH plugs, the best way to clean all the grunge from the pins is to soak them for a few weeks in vinegar.

Jonathan then went on to make good use of the fine weather to paint the electrical distribution box on platform one and the Christmas lights control box near the Standard Four shop. They were both rubbed down and painted in grey gloss.

Sunday saw a full team out Jonathan, Len, Clive, John and myself, Len and Jonathan did the weekly tests on the fire alarm call points in the booking hall and The Trackside, all was well and the findings were recorded.

Simon the full time electrician had joined us again to progress the work on the Santa carriage we have been working on over the past few weeks.

We loaded all our tools, cable drums and test equipment into John,s van and then we all walked down to the carriage and wagon shed at Buckley Wells.
We replaced some of the wiring under the carriage were the insulation was damaged, this is a very awkward job working on your back up against the rails.
Malcolm Vickers then joined us to see how the job was progressing and to OK the work we were undertaking. The rest of the wiring will be heat shrink wrapped to protect the wiring from the elements.
Malcolm will order some more heat shrink sleeving has we were rapidly running out.

Lunch was then taken back in our workshop before returning back to the C & W to do more reterminating and heat shrinking.
Hopefully we should finish this job next week, this carriage is also having the steam heat piping renewed and refurbished bogies, all to be finished in time for the Santa trains.

All the tools and equipment were then loaded into John's van for the journey back to BBS, after unloading the van a brew was very welcome before calling it a day.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
