The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 24-7-2011.

Post by asbibby »

Jonathan came in on Saturday to carry on with stripping work on the carriage plug components.

Sunday saw just Jonathan and myself with Len looking after his wife after a hospital stay, John had another commitmant along with Clive.

The first task was to check out the fire alarm call points in BBS booking hall and The Trackside pub/cafe, we found no problems and recorded our findings in the log book.

On Saturday Jonathan found six hand dryers in cardboard boxes in the staff toilet, we moved them into our workshop to test them.
All six hand dryers were found to work OK after cleaning them of layers of dust, we tested the delays and timer electronics before doing an insulation test.

I painted four wooden carriage terminal pattresse's prior to use on the carriages.

We then sourced our tools and wiring components before making our way down to the Carriage & Wagon shed to carry on with work on the carriage requiring partial rewiring of the lighting circuits.
Two lights in the toilets were done first cutting back about ten inches of the old wiring before crimping new heat resistant wiring to the original light fittings.
We then rewired the three toilet corridor lights with the same heat resistant wire, these were plug and socket connections allowing access to the water tanks.

Lunch was then taken down in our workshop before making our way back to the C & W shed.

The two light fittings in the centre of the carriage were tackled next, again new heat resistance wiring was used to rewire the light fittings cutting out around ten inches of the old wiring before connecting new crimps. This will require the roof panels to be refitted so we can crimp the light fittings back.

The same was done to the non toilet end of the carriage which contained two light fittings, once the ceiling panels are refitted we will connect up the refurbished lights.

We ensured that all the wiring in the roof void was secure before calling it a day and making our way back to BBS.

Another busy day for the electrical department.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
