The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 26-6-2011.

Post by asbibby »

Today Sunday Len, Clive, Jonathan and myself arrived in glorious sunshine at The ELR, first task was to test out the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside Pub/cafe, Jonathan and Len completed the task and recorded their findings in the log book.

We had a report that one of the double flurescent fittings on the staircase leading to platform two was not working, we investigated the problem, but to fix the problem we need a special tool to remove an end cap which has to be be removed to enable access to the fitting.

We then decided to go down to the C & W workshop to collect the Ray Butcher wooden clock surround, perspex and metal clock surround, unfortunately we could not gain access to the joiners shop.

A carriage had been brought into the C & W workshop for some remedial body work after it had been out on hire to the Churnet Valley Railway for use on their new Cauldron extension.
We removed the old carriage plug/leads and covers and brought them back to our workshop for renovation.

Lunch was then taken in the glorious sunshine, the warmest day of the year apparantely.

After lunch we cleaned up the covers and sourced four refurbished carriage plug/leads and covers, then it was back to the C & W with the refurbished carriage plug leads and covers to fit them back on the carriage we had previously taken off.

The four wooden pattress's were painted black before refitting the new leads and covers.

Whilst we were at the C & W workshop we recovered the connection blocks from the privately owned LMS stove brake van which is being restored. We have provided four LMS refurbished carriage plug/leads previously for this unique vehicle, these will be fitted next week.
Two new wooden patress's have been modified and painted these will also be fitted next week.

After making our way back to our workshop Clive and myself stripped down one of the energy efficient double flurescent fittings to find out the manufacturer of the electronic ballast in these fittings, they have been responsible for the failure of at least ten of these modern fittings.

That was it for another day in the life of the electrical volunteers, next weekend is the Diesel week gala.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.

On behalf of Ian Bartlett, the owner of the Stove R who is not on the forum, I would just like to say thanks for your efforts helping to get the electrics up and running.
