The Electrical Volunters Report Sunday 6-2-2011.

Post by asbibby »

Saturday saw Jonathan preparing the Ray Butcher clock mechanism for painting, the rear of the clock face was rubbed down, clearing off years of rust prior to painting in black gloss.

Previously two World Corp. hand dryers had been repaired for use in the new ladies toilet block, these have now been wired up and fitted in situ.

Jonathan then set to scraping overpaint from two more hand dryers which we will keep as spares, these were tested and then bagged and stored away for future use.

On Sunday we had a full team out apart from John who had hurt his back last week, hopefully he will be back in action with us shortly.
Jonathan and Len went off to check out the fire alarm call points in BBS booking office and The Trackside, everything worked satisfactory and they recorded their findings.

While Jonathan and Len were testing the fire alarm system, Clive and myself got ready the tower scaffold, all our tools and the new modified, photo cell equipped lamp head for Summerseat Station.

Myself and Jonathan then sourced the tall stepladders from underneath BBS arches and took them up to BBS booking hall to replace a blown GU halogen lamp which illuminates The East Lancs. Railway Shield.

We then loaded all our gear into the guards van and caught the 09:50 train to Summerseat.

On arrival at Summerseat Station we unloaded all our gear and proceeded to the tasks in hand. The electricity supply was dissconnected to the lamp post nearest the electrical cubicle and the old lamp head removed, Clive did a quick modification on the photo cell wiring in the lamp head, prior to us installing the new lamp head with the new smaller photo cell.
The wiring at the base of the lamp post was connected up in a new plastic back box and a check done on the electronic timer, the new wiring and photo cell.
All these modifications will allow the Summerseat Station lights to be automatically controlled during the Winter operating timetable, also when there is a special event on or a special charter out of normal operating hours, the Ramsbottom signal man or woman will be able to switch the Summerseat Station lights on or off remotely from Ramsbottom signal box.

Al that remains to be done now is for a telecomms. pair of wires to be connected up from Ramsbottom signal box, to our control unit in the electrical cubicle at Summerseat Station.

We caught the same train back to BBS that had dropped us off at Summerseat earlier in the morning, on arrival back at BBS we unloaded all our gear and had an early lunch and a brew.

Simon who was working at Baron Street installing new lights in Ian Riley's works had requested us to help in moving some equipment to the Carriage & Wagon works, on checking this out it was decided to leave this job for the time being.

Back to our workshop in BBS for a brew before testing out some electrical light fittings which need to be returned to the electrical wholesalers for replacement.

Some of us had to be back home early so we decided to call it a day, at least we had managed to do the main job without getting soaked, as the weather decided to take a turn for the worse.
See you all next week.
