Read the book, "Behind the Steam" by WW Morgan and his daughter, I forget her married name, but it tells of his life at Nayland loco shed in south Wales, things like when driving a goods train on a single track section just happeneing to have a rifle with him the shhot a few rabbits.
The GWR just wasn't as perfect as it fans would have us all believe.

ok then the great western wasnt that great then but the locos were the frist standardised engines all made with the smae parts.

A good suggestion might be for you to join josh's forum and discuss the merits (or otherwise) of the GWR in there rather than in the present links thread! :idea:
