The Electrical volunteers' report Sunday 14-01-2024

Post by marflow »

A very cold and dismal morning. I had been to Timpsons for keys cut for the workshop, our cupboard and the standard padlock for two of our new members. None fitted. (Keys that is - not members!!)
With the scaffolding tower, we did some more emergency lights in the over bridge and stairwells. All done except the bottom two on stairs platform 3/4.
Both very awkward to access as we need to "thread" our scaffolding tower through the central handrail. Middle fitting is giving trouble. There's always got to be one! The tube ends are brittle and broken and need fixing. Then there's just the bottom one to do. We ran out of time.
Just to help remember why these lights need sorting: because the inverter which generates the 240 volts from the 9.6v battery voltage during a power cut, isn't suitable for the new led tubes. So we fit a relay to swing the battery voltage to new led strips (kindly donated by Colin). Also, new batteries were needed as the old ones are goosed. Unfortunately, the relays I obtained were fakes and not up to the job so we had to re-source them.
