The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 12-03-2023

Post by asbibby »

It seems a long time but we are now back volunteering on the ELR, today i was joined by Jonathan, John, Stephen, Sophie and Colin, after a brew and a breakfast barm we set off on the DMU service to Heywood Station to recover the two sets of Christmas lights.

The lights were all packed into the two containers and along with our ladders loaded back onto the DMU for our journey back to Bury Bolton Street Station. The railway was packed out with people wanting to ride and see the Flying Scotsman engine at work on our railway, the locomotive celebrating it's one hundred birthday on the ELR.
The other visiting engine was the celebrated Lady of Legend GWR engine on it's first visit to Bury, we decided on arrival in BBS to retrieve the container for the Christmas lights for Ramsbottom Station.
The Heywood containers were dropped off in our workshop and then we caught the Lady of Legend train to Ramsbottom to recover the Christmas lights.
Lunch was taken on the train with a takeaway coffee from BBS cafe. :)

The lights were taken down from the station lamp posts and packed away in their container and brought back to BBS on the same train we had caught earlier. Everything was then unloaded at BBS and stored away in our workshop ready for next Christmas.

We finished off with a brew and some biscuits and cakes before locking up and making our way home. :D
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
