The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 4-4-2016.

Post by asbibby »

:D Today we had five electrical volunteers, John, Jonathan, Clive, Len and myself plus two full paid ELR electricians, Simon and his new apprentice, Paul.

Jonathan and Len went to do the usual fire alarm and sounder testing in BBS and The Trackside, all worked OK and the results logged.

Simon then asked us to help him retrieve a light fitting which had been taken down when the cafe on platform two was converted into a rubber dub dub.
The light fitting was retrieved from the damp undercroft and brought out into the sunlight were it was stripped down outside our workshop.
The light fitting is made from cast iron and has four large globes which contained four bayonet fittings in each globe fitting making a total of sixteen bulbs, these we will convert to one bayonet fitting for each globe then fit them with LED bulbs.
We rubbed down all the cast iron components and painted them in grey undercoat to dry in the sunshine.
One of the components that holds the globe in position broke whilst it was being cleaned, this was taken down to the Bury standard Four Group workshop were it was welded up by one of the volunteers.
The rest of the similar light fittings in the Trackside will be painted black and the light fittings converted to LED lighting one at a time.

David Flood the ELR magazine editor paid us a visit and took a group photograph of us all outside the workshop whilst in the process of the work we were doing. I hope his camera survived the experience and maybe a photograph will emerge in the next ELR magazine?

Lunch was then taken in the bright sunshine while the grey undercoat dried, John had provided us with a home baked Bakewell almond topped cake which was devoured, washed down with a brew.

After lunch all the cast iron fittings were painted black and once again hung out to dry in the warm sunshine, next week we will reassemble the fitting with the refurbished bayonet brass fittings and rewire it, ready for reinstatement in the Trackside. 8)
