Just the four of us today, Len, Jonathan, John and myself, Clive texted us to say he was unable to come in due to unforeseen circumstances.Simon the full time ELR electrician was in and we discussed the changing of the lighting in the booking hall ,staircases and over bridge. It was agreed that we would come in a week on Tuesday to make a start on replacing the fluorescent tubes with LED tubes, this job can only be done out of hours.
We carried on with the job of replacing high wattage bulbs and display halogen bulbs with LED replacement lights to further reduce the overall electricity bill at the ELR in the Bury Transport Museum.
Next in line for more LED replacement lighting will be in the C & W workshop to replace the high bay lighting.
After lunch we sourced the spare DMU speedo generator from the Bury Standard 4 workshop to see if we could strip it down to see if the electrical coil was the same as that faulty one from 80097.
Stripping it down the component parts was quite complex and it will need some milling on the brass housing before we can release the coil which looks identical to the old original 80097 generator.
Once we can get the coil released we can then rebuild the original generator which also requires new bearings which need to be sourced, they are imperial sizes.
A new plug was fitted to a Museum lighting unit and a new LED bulb fitted and tested.
Final job of the day was to test an old five foot fitting for temporary use in a DMU trailer which is being refurbished down at the carriage sidings, a final brew with no biscuits or cake and it was off home for everyone.
