A full team of electrical volunteers turned up on Sunday, Jonathan, John, Len, Clive and myself, Jonathan and Len went off to do the fire alarm call point checks at The Trackside and Bury Bolton Street Concourse. The call point tests proved satisfactory and the results were logged.Simon the full time ELR electrician showed us all the LED five foot daylight tubes that had been purchased to evaluate their use on the railway. We need to reduce the electrical load at Bury Bolton Street Station and one way of doing this is to replace as much lighting as possible with LED lighting.
A unit was altered in our workshop to compare the lighting output of the daylight LED unit with the standard fluorescent lighting, the manufacturer's also do a warm type of LED unit which we probably evaluate at a later date.
We had a chat and a swift brew before splitting into two teams, Jonathan, Clive and Len went over to Bury Transport Museum to finish off PAT testing the display description board lighting units, which we have been working on for the past few weeks.
The remaining units tested out OK and all the lighting units have now been labelled and electronically recorded.
John and myself offloaded from John's car the three ex. Nuneaton lighting units which had been at a specialist label maker, these three lighting units now have Bury Bolton Street printed on the side of the units.
The plastic covers also needed some repair to the corners of the units and John had purchased some fibreglass matting and resin to repair them with. These repairs took us nicely up to lunchtime by which time the crew of Clive, Len and Jonathan had also returned to the workshop after completing all the PAT testing in the museum.
John had brought in a jam sponge cake for us to consider, washed down with copious amounts of tea.
Once lunch had been finished Jonathan and myself went to the carriage and wagon workshop to drop off eight refurbished patress's and patress metal covers, along with four refurbished carriage plug and leads.
A carriage was in the workshop having metal work attended to so the patress covers and carriage plug leads were removed for some attention by us.
We returned to our workshop and cleaned up, repainted and fitted new heat shrink tubing on the four carriage plugs and leads, they will be returned next week.
One more brew and a chocolate roll each and that was it for another day volunteering on the East Lancashire Railway.
