The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 15-2-2015.

:D Well at least it was dry today with some sunshine lifting the temperature here in Bury Bolton street Station, i was joined by Jonathan and Len.
John was at a radio auction hoping to sell some of his old radio gear and Clive was doing a rewire of the telephone system on the house he has recently bought out in the sticks.

After a brew and a chat with Simon who managed to recover our gas torch and gas bottle which we would need to strip the old soldered wires out of the copper pins of the carriage plugs. We decided to carry on with the carriage plug/lead renewal programme in our workshop.

First job as usual was to test the fire alarm call points in The Trackside and the concourse, this task was done by Len and Jonathan.
Everything worked OK and the results were logged.

We then spent the rest of the day stripping and rewiring carriage plugs, de-soldering copper pins and dropping them into vinegar to clean them ready for re-soldering onto the clean copper pins. The other ends of the new cable was then stripped and new ring connectors crimped onto the wires.
A couple of carriage plugs that had been soaking in releasing fluid were stripped and the metal plugs stripped of the years of paint, a total of five plugs were then painted, ready for re-assembly in the next few weeks.

Next week we will be at Heywood Station fitting some new electronic starters/ballast to two of the station lamps were the old ballast starters have failed.

Looking forward to the transport extravaganza next week with plenty trains get up to and from Bury to Heywood. 8)
