The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 24-8-2014.

Post by asbibby »

8) Well what a fine day it turned out to be, wall to wall sunshine for most of the day, a full compliment of ELRPS electrical volunteers turned up, Len, John, Jonathan, Clive and myself.

After a brew Clive got on with completing the modifications to the "Halloween Cauldron" this involved fabricating a metal funnel tapering to a long narrow slot, in which the airflow from the fan will be directed.

Jonathan and Len went off to do the usual fire alarm call point checks in the Trackside and Bury Bolton Street Station, everything worked fine and the results were logged.

We completed six newly refurbished carriage plug leads, applying heat shrink tubing to stop water ingress. It was then down to the carriage & wagon shed to fix new restraining chains to the refurbished carriage plug leads on two of the carriages in for painting.

Lunch was taken in our workshop before returning to the carriage & wagon shed to change some more carriage plug leads and fit new restraining chains.

We removed three old MK2 carriage plug leads from one parcel vehicle inside the shed, it is being converted into an education, come cafe in the near future, it will then be sited at Heywood Station. The other was a MK2 carriage outside of the carriage & wagon shed which appears to be going for scrap. The insides of the carriage had been gutted and the bodywork resembled a colander, i.e. full of holes.

We removed four MK1 plugs from this carriage for refurbishment, these type of plugs are in short supply, so if any more carriages are to be scrapped can the carriage plugs be removed and given to Simon Riley the ELR electrician or ourselves on a Sunday. :)

With that we retreated back to our workshop for a brew and a slice of John's Chocolate cake, pigs bum, Yum Yum!

5392 is outside C & W and is not for scrap but is to be used shortly for filming purposes and netting the ELR a considerable sum..............

Hopefully the leads were properly removed and not simply cut off so refitting them will be an easy job..........

We have plenty MK2 rubber moulded carriage plug leads which have been cleaned up, the plug leads that were fitted to MK2 5392 carriage were MK1 types which are in short supply and were in need of refurbishment.
