The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 15-6-2014.

Post by asbibby »

:) Jonathan made progress on Saturday painting up another four lamp heads ready for us to re-install at Summerseat Station on Sunday.

Sunday saw Jonathan, John , Len and myself in the workshop, Clive was attending a radio club meeting, we had a swift brew before testing out the fire alarm call points in the Trackside and Bury Bolton Street Station.
The weather was not looking to promising with slight, drizzly rain.

The next step was to assemble the lamp heads and test them to ensure they worked OK, the long stepladders were retrieved from the stores along with all our tools and loaded up on the trolley.
We then boarded the 10:20 train up to Summerseat Station to install the newly refurbished lamp heads.

On arrival at Summerseat Station the weather had picked up a bit, at least we were not going to get soaked, the four lamp heads were quickly re-installed on top of the lamp posts.
The ants inside the bottom of the lamp posts and were fighting back, until we excavated a load of soil which the ants had brought up to within inches of the electrical connections. We then put white high melting grease all around the electrical access plates to discourage the ants from setting up home again, it appears to work.

The last three lamp heads were then removed for refurbishment and the top of the lamp posts capped to prevent rain from entering the electrics.

We then caught the next train up to Rawtenstall Station to drop off some spare D type lamps for use as spares, four teas were then quickly obtained from the coach cafe, lunch was taken on the train back to our workshop in Bury Bolton Street.

All our equipment was then unloaded and the ladders returned, our attention then turned to stripping down, knocking out the dents and rubbing down the last three lamp heads from Summerseat Station.

A final brew was taken along with some Mr. Kiplings apple and custard pies, not recommended, i will give them a miss next time.

Back next week to finish off the lamp refurbishment program. 8)

These should be passed to p-way department as a matter of great urgency as we have not had any for three weeks now.
