The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 06-4-2014.

Post by asbibby »

:) Three of us met up on Sunday, Len, Jonathan and myself after a brew Jonathan and Len went off to check the fire alarm call points at Bury Bolton street and The Trackside, everything was working fine and the checks were logged.

It was decided that with the weather being a bit iffy, we would get out our mobile tower scaffold from the damp and wet confines of the beer cellar and do a permanent job on the station clock back lighting.

We had to wipe down the scaffold and spray all the component parts with lubricating spray as the confines of the storage place leave a lot to be desired.

We got together all the tools and conduit bending machine, loaded it all up on one of the platform trolleys along with some cones to barrier off our work area on platform three/four.

The scaffold was erected underneath the platform clock and the temporary wiring disconnected, measurements were then taken on the length of conduit required and the slight bend which was needed to connect up from the trunking which contains all the electrical wiring, to a fused spur which we had mounted close to the platform clock.

The cable connected to the back lighting in the clock was wired up to the fused spur box, then a cable was fed through the conduit into the trunking and was then connected up to the nearest station light fitting connection box.

A check to ensure all the station lights worked along with the back lighting of the clock worked OK.
The station staff asked us to correct the time on one of the two faces of the clock, this is all controlled by a mini computer in the station buffet. The clock was advanced by one minute so that both faces now show the correct same time.

Lunch was taken along with a warming brew as the weather had not improved since earlier in the morning.

After lunch we finished off clipping the wiring up before dismantling the scaffold to reach some more wiring to a floodlight which was in need of tidying up. The cabling was clipped up on top of the roof beam and then plugged into one of the Christmas light sockets.

I dropped off some railway items at The Bury Standard Four shop for them to sell to raise essential funds for us to restore 80097 for use on the East Lancashire Railway. If you have any unwanted items that we could sell just take them down to the shop at the end of platform two.

My wife had a clear out and a good selection of handbags were given to Irene to sell in the newly refurbished concourse shop, pay the shop a visit it is much improved with a greater selection of goods for sale, all proceeds to the ELR.

A last brew was partaken then we all headed off home, no cakes today as John and Clive were at a radio amateurs show in Blackpool.
Next week Len has promised to bring in a cake as it is his Birthday. :D

Glad to hear the Platform 3&4 clock has been sorted. Is it possible to sort out the Station clock outside the station on Bolton Road as one face was about 15mins slow. Apologies if this has already been mended.

Hi Richard,
We don't do the outside clock mainly because we can't get to the mechanism ourselves and it is a very confined space, it has been reported to management by various people, but nothing as happened. :)

Dear Richard

Thought the two clocks were only 60secs apart? Don't kid me that you dispatch to the second!!
