The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 20-10-2013.

:) Jonathan came in on Saturday to remove the original carriage plugs, leads and covers from a carriage outside the C & W works, this carriage is in the works for refurbishment. It will be fitted with new newly refurbished plugs, leads and covers once all the remedial work has been completed.

On Sunday i was joined by Jonathan, Len, John and Clive, this being the Gala day there were plenty of people around to watch, ride and photograph the diverse amount of steam traction in use.
The Duchess of Sutherland being one of the main attractions along with the The Great Marquess, western tank engine 1501, Super D, our own Jinty, WD Sapper, Standard tank 80080 and the Peckett May.

Jonathan and Len went off to test out the fire alarm call points as usual, everything worked and tested out satisfactory and the results were recorded in the log books.

Clive and myself worked on the cauldron project for the forthcoming Halloween event this weekend, the coloured lights were wired up, the transformer was installed in an appropriate enclosure and the fan secured in the right position.
A longer length mains cable was also fitted to the cauldron.
We decided to use different coloured paper streamers to try to create a flame effect.

Jonathan, Len and John collected two new light fittings to be installed in a workshop container in Baron Street yard, they were told that the container would be unlocked ready for them to install the light fittings. When they arrived on site the container was locked so the fittings were left in our wooden cabin in Baron Street ready for installation at a later date.

Ray Butcher paid us a visit in our workshop to ask us if we could fit a new mains lead to a Smiths electrical clock he had bought at an auction. This was completed and Ray picked the clock up later in the day.

We all had some lunch then Clive, Jonathan and myself had a ride up to Heywood Station and back pulled by The Duchess of Sutherland.

John and Len stayed behind stripping the carriage plug covers of layers of paint ready for repainting, this work was carried on by us all on our return from our trip up to Heywood.

We finished off the day with Mr. Kipling apple and blackcurrant tarts washed down with copious amounts of Rosy Lee. :D
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
