The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 23-6-2013.

 Jonathan came in on Saturday to clean and repaint some stripped carriage plug connector shells, ready for new wiring to be fitted.

On Sunday it was Jonathan, myself, Clive, Len John and Simon who met up in the workshop, Len and Jonathan went off to do the usual checks on the fire alarm call points in the Trackside and Bury Bolton Street Station. All worked OK and the results logged.

With the weather not behaving itself today we decided to do some indoors work, we had planned to go to Ramsbottom Station to do some maintenance on the Station lamp heads, hopefully the weather will improve!

John had brought in some plywood for us to manufacture some kick boards for our mobile tower scaffold, we took various measurements and set about cutting the plywood into the required lengths. Some more design work for the kick boards was undertaken by Clive, the result of which we shall see next week.

Jonathan had previously stripped, cleaned and repainted twelve carriage plugs ready for the fitting of new leads and pins, i cut twelve lengths of new cable, whilst Len and John stripped the ends of the cables ready for crimping the new terminals.

Clive and Jonathan went up to Rawtenstall Station to do some measuring up to accommodate the Christmas lights we had inherited and tested last week, these were previously used on platform three/four at BBS..

Len, John and myself went down to the carriage & wagon shed to recover one carriage plug and to drop off a carriage electrical heater we had come across, we then made our way to the ELRPS building at Baron Street to replace a duff fluorescent tube.

Lunch was then taken along with Clive and Jonathan who had returned from Rawtenstall with the station platform measurements.

After lunch it was on with crimping the new crimp terminals on the new carriage plug wiring along with tinning the other ends of the carriage plug leads ready for the cleaned up copper pins to soldered back on, probably next week.

The new cut pieces of plywood which we had previously cut were tested on the tower scaffold to see how they would fit and a couple of modifications to our design was decided upon, and a couple of new pieces of plywood were cut.

That was it for another week after a brew and some slices of coconut cake. 8)
