The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 21-4-2013.

Post by asbibby »

8) A nice bright start to the day saw Len, John, Clive and myself, in for the days work, Jonathan and Chris were having a day off today.

First job was to test out the fire alarm call points in The Trackside and the BBS booking office, everything tested out OK and we recorded the result of the tests in the appropriate log books.

Simon and his mid week electrical volunteers have made a start on installing conduit runs and back boxes for the watertight mains socket outlets which have been purchased for the re-wiring of BBS station platforms three and four.
The dual trunking for this project was purchased about four years ago and fitted by us at the time, but the monies were not forthcoming at the time to finish off the job. The project to complete the re-wiring including all new Christmas light sockets and a new distribution board will be completed this Summer.

I had been previously asked to have a look at and PAT test an illuminated sign by Mike Moore which was located in the booking office, this turned out to be a sign which can be changed by typing on a small keyboard in the unit.
The unit works off batteries or via a mains operated battery eliminator which will give out six volts D.C. If the battery eliminator can be found and the unit works there is no need to PAT test this low voltage device. Sorry Mike I had forgotten about the sign until a bright spark emerged from somewhere.

The four of us then made our way to the steam shed to check out the large clock which we had previously restored by us to ensure the clock was keeping good time, it was altered to read B.S.T. The clock is keeping excellent time we hope to erect this clock in a higher position in the steam shed when we can get hold of some scaffolding.
On the way back we stopped off in the carriage & wagon shed to drop off some refurbished carriage plug leads and found a MK1 brake which was in for some maintenance, this had some old carriage plugs fitted so it was decided that we would remove and replace these plugs and leads after lunch.

We then got collared by a man outside the gates who was looking for someone on the ELR to do with some visiting locomotives to the Mid Hampshire Railway, he had forgotten his mobile phone so we lent him a mobile to ring his contact.

It was then back to our workshop for some lunch and a slice each of chocolate gateau which had been brought in for us to sample.

After a pleasant lunch it was back to the carriage & wagon shed to remove the covers, plugs and leads and replace them with refurbished plugs and leads. The covers were then taken back to our workshop and spent the rest of the day stripping down the old leads and removing years of paint from the carriage plug lead covers ready for painting next week.

Back next week. :)
