The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 24-2-2013.

Post by asbibby »

:D Well it was the steam gala today, i was joined by Jonathan, Len, Clive and John, Simon was already in our workshop getting an early start on preparing the electrical modifications for the new pub/cafe at Rawtenstall station.

Len and Jonathan went to test out the fire alarm call points before it got too busy in the booking office and The Trackside, the testing was done satisfactory and the log book duly filled in.

Seeing that there would be plenty trains today, we had a quick brew before gathering up our tools and a ladder to repair a fault with the photocell control unit at Summerseat Station, this piece of electronics along with a built in timer controls the station lights.
Clive had been previously to Summerseat to find out what was wrong with the electronics, he had found out that the photocell control box had been short circuited and a fuse had blown in the timer. Clive ordered and took delivery of a new control box to replace the faulty one, we caught the 10;30 train to Summerseat Station, unloaded all our equipment, Len, John and Myself replaced a Station lamp cover which had been knocked off previously and had been found by one of the gardeners who tends Summerseat Station. We then removed the complete lamp unit from the lamp post adjacent to the electrical cubicle, the old control unit was replaced with the new one, the electronic timer checked, the lamp unit replaced and then a lamp check was done after covering up the photocell, on top of the lamp unit.
All the lights came on including the one we had replaced the lamp cover, the the photocell was then uncovered to ensure that all the lights went out, job done and we caught the next train back to Bury Bolton Street Station.

We arrived back at 12:20 just in time for a spot of lunch, a brew and a slice of John's Jam and cream cake which he had brought in for us all to share, "pigs bum".

Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves at BBS Station with it resembling a main line station of old, we then proceeded to The Bury Standard Four workshop at the end of platform two, to install and wire up some 110v socket outlets, three of these were completed and tested out satisfactory, the other three will be completed next week.
Then it was back to our workshop for a last brew and a shufty at the engines in BBS before leaving for home. 8)
