The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 20-1-2013.

Post by asbibby »

For the Steam Gala i was joined by Jonathan, Clive, John and Chris. Jonathan and myself did the usual fire alarm call point checks at BBS and The Trackside, everything worked satisfactory and we recorded the findings in the log books.

John and Clive recovered the mobile tower scaffold from the undercroft and we loaded up the scaffold with the final Christmas lights container and caught Ian Riley's double headed Black Fives up to Rawtenstall Station to recover the lights. We managed to take down the lights and roughly pack them up to enable us to catch the same train back to BBS and our workshop for an early lunch.

Simon the full time electrician was also in today, so we passed a message on from BBS staff to have a look at why the gents toilets and the platform lamp post lights on platform three/four were not working. Chris found out that a circuit breaker in the gents toilets had tripped and that a time clock was twenty minutes slow, these were corrected and everything worked satisfactory.

We all the partook of some lunch, and a brew in the warmth of our workshop.

The next task was to unloaded the scaffold and empty the Christmas lights container to enable us to pack the lights up in the container in a more organised manner. Once this was done the container was put away in the workshop and the scaffold put to bed in the undercroft.

It was then off to Bury Transport Museum to check the fuses in three of the lamp post adjacent to the museum, one fuse was replaced, the other two being sound. Our extension ladders were still locked in a room in the museum that we have no access to, so we could not cover the photo-cell that controls the lights. It will have to wait till next week before we can prove if all the lights are working correctly.

It was then decided that we would take the opportunity to have a ride up to Heywood Station hauled by The newly commissioned "Braunton" before it's journey back down south, we were later told that it will be with us for the February Gala, Good News!!!

It was then back to BBS and our workshop for another brew and to sample some mince pies that Clive had brought in. The tools were then packed away and that was it for another enjoyable Gala day.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
