The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 11-11-2012.

Post by asbibby »

Jonathan was in the workshop on Saturday stripping and painting carriage plug shells etc.

Sunday dawned and I was joined by Jonathan, Len, Clive and John, Len and Jonathan completed the fire alarm call point tests in BBS and The Trackside and recorded their findings.

I checked the time switch controlling the outside security lights in BBS booking office which appeared to have been tampered with by persons unknown, Clive stripped and corrected the switch contacts and refitted the time switch.

The time switch in the gents toilet controlling the platform column lights was corrected time and day wise.

We then recovered our mobile tower scaffold from The Transport Museum and brought it back to platform three/four to replace one of the canopy light fittings, the one we have taken down will be refurbished.

Clive meanwhile caught the train up to Summerseat Station to alter the time clock controlling the Station lights. These lights can now also be remotely controlled from Ramsbottom signal box and switched on any time during the evenings, e.g. when the dining train is being used at night.

Clive then rejoined us and the scaffold was taken down and loaded onto the next train up to Heywood along with the two strings of Christmas lights along with three spare bulbs for the Station lights.

Lunch was taken at Heywood Station in the platform shelter, with tea kindly provided by the Station Master.
Both strings were then strung up between the Station lamp posts and the Station lights checked to see which lights were not working, a total of six station light bulbs were blown, we replaced three bulbs.
A final lamp check was done on the Christmas lights and other ancillary lights, twenty five Christmas bulbs need replacing, one bulb in the waiting shelter, three station lamp bulbs and two energy savers on the ramp all require replacing.
They will be replaced once we have obtained spares.

On returning back to BBS we took the tower scaffold back to the Bury Transport Museum, one of the wheels came off again this will have to be fixed before it is used again.

That was it for another week, next Sunday we will erect some Christmas lights between the lamp posts at Rawtenstall Station for the first time, now that the Santa trains are going from Bury to Rawtenstall.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
