The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 28-10-2012.

Post by asbibby »

What a complete contrast in weather from Saturday which was a bit chilly but blue skies and sunny, today Sunday was wet, grey and windy a good job we had programmed work to do on Bury Bolton Street Station canopy lights.

I was joined by Jonathan, Len, Clive John and Simon our full time electrician, first task was to test out the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside as we had not done them last week due to the steam gala being in full swing.
Everything tested out OK by Jonathan and Len and the findings were duly recorded in the log books.

We then split into three teams, Simon went up to Ramsbottom Station to look at a problem with the station platform lights, whilst Clive and John went to Summerseat Station and Ramsbottom Station to finalise the commissioning of the remote switching of Summerseat Station platform lights from Ramsbottom signal box.
A few wiring problems were encountered but these were soon sorted out by Clive and John, including putting ant powder down one of the lamp posts to discourage the ants from creating problems shorting out the fuse carriers in the lamp posts.
That left Jonathan, Len and myself to get out the tower scaffold and to sort out the station lights on platform three and four, we were also going to recommission the station drum clock but we couldn't because all the lighting booms had been erected for the Halloween entertainment on platform three and four. We will try to fit it again next week.
The first two light fittings were changed on platform four and new securing chains were installed, only one light was working on platform four but this was soon sorted, the wiring had been disturbed during the roof renewal work.
Lunch was then taken, after which we were joined by Clive and John who where successfully in commissioning and testing of the remote control lighting at Summerseat Station.

We then carried on with the sorting out of the BBS platform lights, more new chain was made up to the correct lengths and fitted to another four of the lighting units, we will tackle the other six next week.
Some of the light fittings had quite an amount of water inside due to all the wet weather when the roof was removed, prior to the canopy being re-roofed, the fittings are not designed for outdoor usage.

We will have to obtain a new wheel for our mobile tower scaffold as there was a problem with some missing internal parts which hold the wheels in place.

Hope the remote switching for Summerseat Platform Lights (from Rammy s/b) comes in useful. A lot of work went into that facility!

If anyone finds a cone-shaped metal object about 3cm dia. and 5cm long, it may just be the missing piece from our scaffold tower wheel. Please let us know. (extn 229)
