The Electrical Volunteers Report Sunday 15-7-2012.

Post by asbibby »

On Saturday Jonathan was joined by Chris so they decided to go up to Rawtenstall to finish off painting the lamp heads, seeing that the weather was behaving itself. They managed to finished off painting the remaining lamp heads which needed repainting, one of the lamp heads was taken down and brought back to the workshop for some investigation, for some reason the globe was full of water.
The lamp heads next for repainting are the ones at Ramsbottom, these will be tackled in the weeks to come, depending on the weather behaving itself!
Jonathan also refitted the glass covers for the BBS tunnel lights we are working at replacing on Tuesdays.

Sunday was a lovely day with just a few dull spells but mainly sunny, I was joined by Jonathan, Len, John and Clive with Simon the full time electrician joining us. Len and Jonathan tested out the fire alarm call points in BBS and The Trackside as usual and recorded their findings.

It was decided to go up to Summerseat to carry on with work we had started last week on enabling some electrical connectons between the telecomms. cubicle and our electrical cubicle, more work is needed on this job mainly gaining access to the telecomms.
Graham is on holiday so the job will have to wait a bit longer.

Simon then joined us on the train up to Ramsbottom were we had lunch on the platform picnic benches, very pleasant it was to.
Clive and Jonathan then wired up the run back timer in Ramsbottom signal box and drilled a small hole through the floor to enable the small cable to be eventually connected to the telecomms. box in the locking room, some more liason needed with signalling and telecomms.

We then returned back to our workshop in BBS, John and Jonathan had a look at an air conditioning unit which had been brought in from the sleeper carriage, the reported fault was that "it is not working".
No mains is getting to the motor unit, but this is via a complex piece of electronics, of which we have no circuit diagrams so it will have to be seen by an airconditioning expert or dumped!

Clive and myself meanwhile had made some perspex spacers to go behind the new BBS tunnel lights we had fitted last week, also the second unit down had it's new edison screw fitting replaced, a new low energy bulb fitted and the lights tested OK.
Two down four to go, this job is taking a long time because everything is seized up solid and we are having to be very carefull with the pyro wiring ans connectors, it's a nightmare.

The cover off one of the light fittings in the booking hall at BBS was refitted after being repaired with copious amounts of magic glue.
Simon had obtained the new edison screw light fittings we required for the new BBS tunnel lights, these were fitted to the three units which have not been fitted yet.

That was it for another day, we will be back on Tuesday replacing more BBS tunnel light fittings.
Deep in the heart of Swinetown.
